Modern Faroe Islands Rarities

October 6, 1980

Engraved by Czeslaw Slania after photographs.  This single stamp was from the first printing made in two colors by Helsingfors of Finland.  Supposedly the entire printing was destroyed in the incinerator at the Thorshavn dump.  However, some children playing at the dump retrieved a few of the stamps after they were disposed.  This particular stamp is position 25 from the lower right hand corner of the sheet and exhibits the printers mark in the bootom selvage.  The viewer will notice that the second printing as illustrated below is only printed in a single color, and has "Printed in Switzerland" in the selvage.  Also notice that the perforations on the first printing go to the edge of the sheet.  On the second printing there are only two perforations in the selvage past the edge of each stamp.
