The Faroe Islands are located in the middle of the North Atlantic Ocean midway between Iceland, Scotland, and Denmark. They were settled by Irish Monks (St. Brendan) around the year 825 and by the Vikings around the year 900, The capital is Thorshavn, named after the Norse God Thor. Despite the fact that the islands only have a population of around 45,000, they have a fascinating postal history. This page presents some selected items of Faroe Islands stamps for your enjoyment. |
